WHY USE ARCTIC ARMOR? | TYPES OF WINTER COVERS | WINTER COVER BASICS
Arctic Armor Fast Facts
Winter covers are crucial for closing a pool at the end of the season. Winter covers prevent leaves, dirt, and debris from falling into the pool during the winter, leading to far less clean up and an easier start-up in the spring. The Blue Wave® Arctic Armor™ cover line, manufactured by Blue Wave, offers a complete variety of in-ground and above-ground pool cover products to suit every pool owner's needs.
Here are four fast facts about investing in the best winter pool cover you can buy:
STRONG, LONG-LASTING WOVEN STRANDS
Arctic Armor covers are woven from strong, long-lasting polyethylene tapes to hold up against to winter's worst punishment.
NO MORE ALGAE GROWTH
The extremely tight woven fabric that makes up an Arctic Armor cover will not allow light to pass through it. And without sunlight, algae growth is stopped in its tracks!
OVERLAP LEADS TO LONGER WEAR ON ABOVE-GROUND COVERS
Blue Wave does not skimp on fabric. Each Arctic Armor above-ground cover has an extra foot of material—making it a super value! A 4-ft. overlap enables a better fit, especially on pools with extra wide top-rails. This extra fabric also takes up some of the slack during windy weather, preventing excessive wear and tear like smaller, 3-foot covers. Better still, the covers are held secure with a heavy-duty vinyl-coated cable and tightener anchored by rip-proof metal grommets.
ENJOY WELL-FASTENED SECURITY WITH ALL IN-GROUND COVERS
Blue Wave Arctic Armor covers are equipped with loops every four feet to secure water bags and corner grommets, which allow for extra tie-down in windy areas. The cover is five feet longer and wider than the pool size.
All Blue Wave Arctic Armor pool covers are super strong and built to last. Extend your hard-earned dollar. Make a solid purchase with a Blue Wave Arctic Armor pool cover that will go the distance season after season.

WHY USE ARCTIC ARMOR™ WINTER POOL COVERS?
Winter covers are an essential part of the pool winterization process since they keep a pool clear of leaves and other debris. Some winter covers of mesh design also allow rain water to pass through. Winter covers also reduce the risk of frost damage.
From a security standpoint, good-quality covers truly add up to a real convenience by preventing pets, and other small animals from falling into the pool when attempting to walk on the cover or drink the accumulated water.
Almost any pool—no matter its shape or size—can be accommodated by a pool cover, including shaping for steps and ladder entry points. All winter covers are made from UV-stabilized polyethylene fabric for strength and security, and stitched with anti-rot thread. Normally these covers feature anti-abrasion strips and PVC reinforcement affixed at potentially high-wear areas.
Quick Tip:
The scrim is the weave tightness in the underlying thread construction of the pool cover. The higher the scrim number, the better the quality of the winter pool cover.
In areas that reach freezing temperatures, it is important to close a pool properly. This varies greatly between in-ground and above-ground pools. By taking steps to properly secure the pool, it lessens the likelihood that the superstructure will be damaged or compromised by freezing water.

TYPES OF ARCTIC ARMOR™ WINTER COVERS:
Solid Winter Covers:
Rugged polyethylene scrim and coating means this cover can withstand winter’s worst. Arctic Armor covers are U.V. protected so they will last for years in direct sunlight. The cover’s black underside retards algae growth and heat sealed seams means a crystal clear pool next spring. The big 4 foot overlap on Above Ground covers and 5 foot overlap on In Ground covers ensures a proper fit and helps the cover from stretching and ripping like covers with shorter overlaps. They also provide some safety for preventing unwanted pool entry, but should not be relied on for that purpose. Arctic Armor Solid Winter Covers are available for Above Ground and In Ground pools, in Bronze, Silver and Gold quality levels. They are backed by 8-Year (bronze), 12-Year (silver) or 15-Year (gold) Warranties.
Mesh Winter Covers:
Arctic Armor Rugged Mesh covers make spring clean-up a snap. The secret to this unique cover is the tightly woven scrim that holds together insuring that no gaps or holes develop. Rugged mesh allows only rain water and very fine silt to pass through. Since the cover is made of mesh that is very lightweight, simply lift it off in the spring. No heavy water to lift off or time consuming cover pumping. Simply remove rugged mesh, vacuum up the fine silt and open your pool.
Rugged mesh's fine mesh allows rain and snow to slowly fill your pool, saving water and chemicals in the spring. Since the scrim is so tightly woven, the cover allows almost no sunlight through and ensures an algae-free pool in the spring. Arctic Armor's rugged mesh covers are made from tough U.V. protected woven polyethylene that is strong enough to handle ice, snow, sleet and high winds. Rugged double stitched hems are triple reinforced for strength and the cover's black underside retards algae growth. Available for Above Ground and In Ground pools, Arctic Armor Rugged Mesh is backed by an 8-Year Warranty!
Leaf Nets:
Lightweight covers made of an open weave material that fits over a winter cover or solar cover to prevent accumulation of wet, heavy, saturated leaves and twigs on top of the cover. These nets ensure faster removal of leaves, and prolong the life of a winter or solar cover. They can be used in any season, and are a big plus if a pool is located in an area surrounded by trees. The open weave design allows water to pass through the net, but will block twigs, leaves and trash. Leaf nets facilitate the removal of a pool cover every time. Arctic Armor Leaf Nets are available for Above-Ground and In-Ground pools and are backed by a 4-Year Warranty.
Safety covers:
Security pool covers are more important than ever today for establishing safe conditions and peace of mind—especially for pool owners with young children in their homes or surrounding neighborhoods. Available in rugged mesh or a solid material, these covers function as a maintenance tool as well as a safety barrier. All safety covers must meet the requirements in the ASTM standards F1346-91 (1996)—meaning the cover must be able to support the weight of a small child or animal that may walk onto the cover. A proper safety cover is securely anchored into the deck area surrounding the pool and lies flat so there are no gaps between the pool and the cover. A good safety cover will provide peace of mind if it is made from material that will not run, so that a hole will not increase in size and instead can be patched. Safety covers follow the shape of the pool with the proper number of anchors embedded around the pool to hold the cover in place.

MORE COVER BASICS
For an in-ground pool, a solid cover is held in place by water bags that are placed around the edge inside sleeves attached to the cover.
An above-ground pool uses the same type of solid cover, but instead it is held by a combination winch and vinyl-coated cable assembly that runs through grommets in the cover.
Inflatable air pillows rest on the water under the cover to facilitate stick and leaf removal as well as water runoff.
Many winter covers are designed to block sunlight, which prevents algae growth. Algae prevention is an ever-important part of winterizing the pool. Winter covers actually lead to clearer pool water and easier and less expensive pool start-up processes in the spring.
Remember:
-
A covered pool will see less freezing than an uncovered one.
-
The proper winter safety cover will protect children and animals from falling into the water.
-
A winter pool cover will prevent leaves, dirt, and debris from entering a pool during harsh winter weather, resulting in less messy cleanup in the spring—and less stress.
